An attractive pub and restaurant tucked away in a small village just off the main A6; a part thatched property, with an abundance of baskets of flowers and pots brimming with flowers all year round. Rolling fields back on to a large child friendly garden at the rear.

Inside has been re-decorated; cosy log fires greet you in the winter. The restaurant offers a well-planned menu, full of innovative dishes using local produce. The wine list comprises both European and New World wines. The Jackal has had a chequered past with several different approaches having been taken over the years. Ours new bistro style cuisine has dishes to suit everyone, from a formal celebration dinner to a quick bite. All of the food is freshly prepared and cooked. As owners, Kevin and Julia have worked hard to achieve a good reputation in both the food and pints. Chef/Owner Kevin Hanks, a native of Bedfordshire, attended catering college locally, then went in to London, Reading and Oxford to continue exploring the world of food with several years being spent as Head-Chef, in charge of large brigades of staff (he even trained alongside Gordon Ramsey). Prior to finding The Jackal, Kevin spent three years in rural Gloucestershire in a demanding and challenging role at a small country hotel, where he achieved AA Rosettes for his food.

Julia Hook is the other member of this partnership, bringing a wealth of different ideas and approaches from her experiences in Horticulture, Marketing and Design. Running a freelance consultancy whilst looking after a young son has encouraged Julia to recognise that restaurants in the UK need to be aware of the needs of the new working families, something they have done at The Jackal.
